Pilgrims are gathering at the Abbey to celebrate the translation of Saint Winifred’s bones to Shrewsbury. In distant Winchester a knight has been murdered. Some of the pilgrims begin to puzzle Cadfael, until it appears that the murder is not as remote as it seems.
